Federal President reappoints Prof. Dr. Peter Post to the Science Council

Corporate Technology Advisor of Festo continues to be a member of the scientific policy advisory committee of the Federal Government and the Federal States

Prof. Dr. Peter Post, Corporate Technology Advisor of Festo, was appointed to the Science Council for a further three years by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Anja Karliczek, Federal Minister of Education and Research, on joint proposal of the Federal Government and the Federal States.

On February 1st, 2020, Prof. Dr. Peter Post’s second term of office in the Science Council of the Federal Government and the Federal States will begin. Until 2023, he will continue to be one of eight public figures on the board. He is also one of the 32 members of the Scientific Commission. The Science Council's task is to draw up recommendations on the development of science, research and higher education in terms of content and structure and to contribute to securing the international competitiveness of German science.

“It is a pleasure for me to be reappointed by the Federal President. The work of the Science Council is characterised by an intensive and exciting interdisciplinary dialogue and is highly effective in the important interlinking of society, industry and science. Current topics include, for example, the change in the sciences due to data-intensive research and application orientation in research. I am happy to be involved in the discussion and consultation on the shaping of the German science system for another three years,” says Prof. Post.

Prof. Post began his professional career with a training course as a toolmaker. He then studied “General Mechanical Engineering” at the University of Siegen and received his doctorate as a Dr.-Ing. at the Institute for Mechanics and Control Engineering. Since 1989, he has held various positions in research and development at Festo in Esslingen and was also head of research. He is currently Corporate Technology Advisor at Festo. In 2010, he was awarded the German Future Prize of the Federal President for the Bionic Handling Assistant. Esslingen University of Applied Sciences appointed Prof. Dr. Peter Post as honorary professor in 2012. The 60-year-old is also active in various networks and clusters of production-related industrial research, including regional (including microTEC Südwest), national (including “Plattform Industrie 4.0”) and European networks (Manufuture, EFFRA).
