Plug and work with electric drives

Simplified Motion Series from Festo based on digital I/O and IO-Link®

Solving simple motion tasks electrically and intelligent communication from the controller to the cloud via IO-Link® is now possible with the Simplified Motion Series from Festo. The electric drive series combines the simplicity of pneumatics with the benefits of electric automation.

The electric drive series that is part of the Simplified Motion Series is an integrated drive solution for simple motion tasks that enables operation without any software in accordance with the plug and work principle. The parameters for the advancing and retracting speed as well as the pressing and clamping force can be set directly on the drive, along with the reference for the end position, cushioning path and manual operation.

Intuitive commissioning

Thanks to the intuitive, quick and easy commissioning directly on the drive, configuration doesn’t require any software or specific know-how. The motion can be simply controlled via digital I/O (DIO), as with a pneumatic valve. End position feedback, which is similar to feedback from a standard proximity sensor, provides information about the completion of the motion task.

Advanced user functions are provided via IO-Link®, including convenient remote control, parameter copy, backup function and read functions for advanced process parameters. IO-Link® enables the drives to communicate intelligently from the controllers all the way to the cloud – for simple motions as well as easy handling, commissioning and actuation.

Digital I/O and IO-Link® are automatically always on board. This means that products from the Simplified Motion Series contain two types of controllers as standard.

Simplified, yet full functionality

Their simplified functionality makes the drives perfect for simple motions between two mechanical end positions, without having to sacrifice optimised motion characteristics, gently cushioned advancing and retracting into the end positions or a simplified pressing and clamping function.

At its launch, the Simplified Motion Series will include the following electric drives: spindle and toothed belt axis units ELGS-BS/-TB, mini slide unit EGSS, toothed belt axis unit ELGE-TB, electric cylinder unit EPCS and rotary drive unit ERMS.
