25 per cent less power consumption

PreAudit for compressed air systems: Festo shows how it's done

Energy savings of 25 per cent and more in compressed air systems for machines and systems – often it’s the small actions that make the difference, such as reducing the pressure level, detecting leakages or shortening tube lengths. With the Compressed Air Energy Efficiency PreAudit, Festo is opening up enormous saving potentials for system operators throughout their entire compressed air system.

More and more system operators want to increase the energy efficiency, and thus the performance of their compressed air systems. Many also recognise the need to implement the global standard ISO 50001 for systematic energy management in their plants. Operators in Germany, for example, can benefit from partial exemptions through the EEG reallocation charge (EEG = German Renewable Energy Sources Act) and tax relief on electricity and energy.

Quick wins through quick checks

So where’s the best place to start? Where can you get the quick wins? This is where a kind of quick check comes in. In the PreAudit, all parts of a compressed air system are subjected to a point-by-point analysis. With the PreAudit from Festo, system operators can detect weaknesses immediately and know for certain which measures are most likely to work for their compressed air system.

During the PreAudit, the energy experts from Festo examine the compressed air generation and preparation, assess the compressor utilisation, analyse the compressed air quality and measure the pressure drop in the system. In the quick check, the specialists carry out a representative leakage detection test on selected systems and also check that the pneumatic components of these machines are used in an energy-efficient way. The customers get a detailed report with accurately documented data and recommendations for action weighted by priority. The documentation sets out the CO2 emission values that many companies need to state in their sustainability report in accordance with GRI or GHG for example.

Fully integrated approach

Only a few providers are in a position to assess the entire compressed air system. Frequently, the focus is solely on compressed air generation. With its Compressed Air Energy Efficiency PreAudit, Festo is pursuing an integrated approach – from generation to application – and has gained extensive experience over the last five years.

The PreAudit forms part of the comprehensive Festo Energy Saving Services range, which is certified to DIN EN ISO 11011. This requires Festo’s auditors to complete extensive training. 16 auditors are now qualified to carry out the Compressed Air Energy Efficiency PreAudit of machines and systems on-site for customers around the world.
